PIGS
Penelope & Hubert
Penelope
Like so many other mini-pigs, Penelope was bought to be a pet, and once the family got tired of her, she was dumped at a sanctuary. She was just under a year old when this happened. The sanctuary was full at that time, and we just so happened to be ready to welcome our first pig, so we worked together with the sanctuary so that we could give Penny her forever home.
Hubert
Hubert was purchased by a young lady who loved him very much. However, she quickly realized that keeping a piglet was not going to work out once she tried taking him to college. She ended up finding us when she was looking at sanctuaries, and he arrived at SoL when he was six months old. He adapted quickly and lives with the other mini pigs here. He sits so adorably for treats and belly rubs!
WALLACE & Jasper
Wallace and Jasper are bonded brothers and the first big pigs to live at our sanctuary. Their story has a sad beginning but now that they’re here, we are honored to be able to provide them with a safe, loving home. They will never again have to face cruelty and will only know love, respect, and kindness.
In July, 2016 the ASPCA assisted in the largest-ever farm animal cruelty case in the northeast, where more than 1,000 farm animals of various species were living in deplorable conditions on a 70-acre property in Westport, Massachusetts. They found dead, injured, and neglected animals, some with no access to food or water.
The ASPCA provided care for these animals and later transported them to a temporary location to receive ongoing care until disposition was determined by the court. Once the Court awarded ownership of the animals to the ASPCA, the search for homes began. We were contacted by ASPCA and asked if we could provide a home for two of the pigs. An ASPCA representative visited our sanctuary and we were approved for placement and a grant to help prepare for the arrival of the pigs. After preparation and a very long trip here, we were absolutely thrilled to welcome Wallace and Jasper.
Wallace
Wally is shy and peaceful. He keeps to himself but he loves to receive attention through the gate! He has the best fuzzy that have ever existed. We’re pretty sure we’ve caught him rolling his eyes at The Who’s, who drive him crazy!

Jasper
Jasper is mellow and meditative. Despite his enormous size, he is very gentle and thoughtful. He loves to spend the day relaxing with his belly in the sun. He is the epitome of relaxation and takes his time sauntering through life.
Wemberly
Wemberly was born on a factory farm where at just 21 days old, piglets are taken from their mothers and moved to the growing barns. Wemberly had just been taken from her mother and was found forgotten, freezing, and scared, left in the transport trailer. A kind worker took pity on her and rescued her. When Wemberly arrived she was 16 pounds and very sick, and was immediately taken to the hospital where it was found she had pneumonia. A couple weeks later, another little piglet who had been left in the same transport trailer that Wemberly was found in was brought to us by the same worker. Annabelle was only seven pounds and suffered from a joint infection due to her difficult beginning. After their initial rocky start, they began to grow and thrive at the sanctuary. They were best friends and grew up like sisters. We sadly lost Annabelle after 5 years , at the beginning of 2024. Wemberly is still doing well and is 7 years old now.
Wemberly
Wemberly is big and assertive. She can be a little intimidating if you don’t know her. She is not shy at all and knows exactly how to get what she wants (which most of the time are snacks and belly scratches). She is incredibly smart and communicative, and is easily persuaded with treats!
Annabelle
REST IN PEACE OUR BEAUTIFUL FRIEND
Annabelle was the sweetest princess. She suffered from chronic joint pain, due to the terrible conditions she was subjected to before she was rescued. Because of this she preferred to spend her days relaxing while laying down, but she’d still squeal with excitement whenever she’d see us coming! She always had so much to say, she was the chattiest pig around. She loved kisses, snuggles, massages, and long talks.
Sam
Sam was found hurt and wandering in a residential neighborhood. When we got to him he was suffering from a broken femur and hypothermia. He is with us now, all healed and well and the most joyful, loving boy. He is the first to squeal with excitement when the food cart comes around and one of the first to approach humans for love, attention and pets. You can always count on him to flop onto the ground for belly scratches 10 seconds into petting him! He is the sweetest boy!

The Whos!: Martha May & cindy Lou
The Who's ~ Martha May and Cindy Lou came to us as piglets, after being rescued from a terribly undhealthy situation. They are curly haired cuties and have been enjoying their new lives at SoL. They are super energetic and are always full of mud! They are playful and boisterous but settle down and flop right over for a belly rub opportunity!
Martha May
Martha May is the first of the two to lay down for belly rubs. Although she is very energetic, she is the “calm” one between her and Cindy!

Cindy Lou
Cindy Lou is a bit more assertive than Martha and has so much energy. It is nearly impossible to get her to keep still for photos! She is always on the go but will occasionally stop for belly scratches and treats.

Captain Dan
Captain Dan was born on a hog farm with only partial back legs. He was put into the “bad pen” where the ones who won’t grow to be profitable are sent to death. A family member saw him there and felt compassion for him, so they decided to take him home. His life was slightly better at his new home, but he wasn’t getting the specialized care that he needed for his legs and was continuously injuring them by needing to scoot around. His caretakers decided that it was finally time for him to go to either a sanctuary or the slaughterhouse. We know that Little Dan deserves every chance at the best possible life so we brought him home and have been trying everything in our power to see what is possible for him.So far his leg injuries are healed and he’s been testing out some wheelchairs! He is so sweet and doing much better.
PACHA
Pacha was left abandoned at a farm and his life was being threatened when we brought him home. His tusks were growing into his face and he was very scared but ready and hopeful for a new life. He is still shy of humans but now lives in safety and often enjoys a little scratch and patient love.
OPIE
In 2022, we were contacted by multiple people alerting us to a pig nearby who was in danger. We knew we were full and couldn't take him on but when someone needs help close to home, we do our best to step up to help. We already had another home arranged when we went to get the little guy. His owners recently discovered he was a male after one of their females gave birth to piglets. They were unwilling to pay to have him neutered and wanted him gone or dead. He threatened that if we hadn't come to get him it would have been "the 22 or the shovel”.
Knowing Opie had another home lined up, we brought him home and made him comfortable. He was just starting to relax and feel safe when the home we had arranged fell through. We decided to introduce him to the mini pigs and when that didn’t work out, tried to think of a solution for the little guy. We went to check on him and found he had broken out of his pen and into Captain Dan’s, where we found them snuggled up and sleeping together. And there he stayed, Captain Dan’s new BFF ❤️
PETUNIA
Petunia came to us from a family where we were told that the first spring she was with them she got stuck in the mud and lost the use of her back legs. The vet they had out to see her told them to shoot her, but instead they chose to let her live her life. She roamed the property and neighborhood with no fence and no permanent shelter. The family wanted her gone before the weather got too cold and placed an ad for her.
When I spoke with them, they had an offer for someone to come and shoot her and take her for meat. When Jon arrived to pick her up and met the family, he learned that the husband/father had passed away from COVID a year ago and the family and young children were struggling to take care of Petunia and needed help. So, we brought her home.
Petunia is the sweetest, most gentle girl who loves to be loved. She can get up on her back legs, walk a bit, and then sways, sits back down and scoots. She does just fine and loves her life.
